90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way stars Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh posted a video defending their decision to crowdfund her health treatments.

Singh, 38, and Slatten, 68, got married in his native five years ago on the TLC reality show and have been living there ever since.

She revealed last month that she has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and a friend of the couple's who runs their fan club then launched a GoFundMe to help cover her medical costs.

ALS, which is , is a rare and incurable degenerative condition that impairs the nervous system over time and causes the muscles to increasingly suffer from paralysis.

About half of ALS patients have a life expectancy of three years after the initial onset of symptoms, though some can survive for decades.

After receiving pushback for requesting donations, Singh shared an Instagram video with Slatten, whose speech had been noticeably slowed and slurred by her illness.

Slatten explained that she was likely to require a wheelchair in the near future, while Singh noted the couple do not have health insurance in India.

Returning to America presented its own difficulties, they argued, in that Slatten had become unable to travel alone and obtaining a visa for Singh was 'not easy.'

Singh's divorce from his first wife was covered on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, which saw Slatten move from Palm Springs to India and marry her paramour, in the teeth of opposition from his family over the fact she was older than his mother.

After Slatten announced her ALS diagnosis, her friend Penny Minincleri set up a GoFundMe that as of Tuesday had raised over $62,000 towards a goal of $250,000.

'The primary purpose of this fundraiser,' Minincleri wrote: 'is to help cover Jenny’s growing medical expenses, including mobility equipment such as a walker and wheelchair, in-home nursing or caregiver support, and future hospital and treatment costs. Medication alone for 1 year will exceed $200,000.'

The couple also hoped to raise enough money to enable Slatten's daughters to 'spend extended time in India so they can be by their mom’s side and support both Jenny and Sumit during this difficult journey.'
