Jeff Brazier broke down in tears as he admitted he wants to 'apologise' to his son Bobby for suppressing his 'heavy' mental health struggles.

The presenter, 47, has long been known for presenting himself as the supportive family man, raising his two sons Bobby, 23, and Freddy, 21, as a single father following the death of their mother in 2009.

But Jeff has now shared how he finally faced his demons while attending an alternative therapy retreat, after realising he was putting on a 'fake' front.

The This Morning star added that at the time, he had 'something going on at home' that had impacted his mental state.

It comes following reports that Jeff had fallen out with his younger son Freddy, though they are now thought to have reconciled.

Jeff has since become a grandfather for the first time, after Freddy welcomed a daughter named Isla with his ex Holly Swinburn.

Speaking to Pete Wicks at a live recording of his Man Made podcast, Jeff said: 'Can I tell you what happened when I really took the mask off?

'It's the last day on this retreat, and everyone's celebrating, in jubilance, everyone feels like they've really sort of transformed through some of the stuff they've released.

'They've also acquired some knowledge, so everyone's feeling good, but I'm not because I've got something going on at home, that I know is difficult.

'So I'm not feeling particularly jubilant, celebratory, in fact, I feel fake. I'm going through the motions.

'Is anyone going to notice, or do I actually get the opportunity to say it because that's what I've been sort of practicing all weekend? Luckily, they did a check-in.

'So they'll simply do ''what's your name, give me a number between zero and ten as to how you feel, and give me a word that associates,' a simple check-in that we can all do with our family members.

'Kids will probably really quite enjoy the process of doing that.

'Coincidentally, the guy to my left went first to it, meaning it went all the way around the circle, everyone's eight, nines, and tens. And obviously, I didn't, I was happy for everyone that that's exactly where they found them.

'And I was almost in tears, really, by the time it got round to me, and I had to say, ''Jeff, one, heavy.''

'And so I then I sort of named it, so it gave people a chance to kind of step in, ask me what was going on, what I needed, they supported me, and it gave me a chance to break down, and I did.

'I feel emotional now telling you about it, but it gave me the opportunity to name it first and foremost, so it's better out than in. Then I got the support from everybody else that was there.

'Then other people start crying because they resonate with the reason why I'm upset. So there's that strength of the fact that you've given people an outlet just by naming it and being honest. And I guess there's leadership in that.

'You know, when we think a leader, we think of someone out of. Like, you know, what film, like Gladiator or something, we see that image.

'But what if the leader is the person that allows themselves to be as weak and vulnerable as they feel in that moment. I learned to do that, it was the first time I'd done it really, it felt good.'

Breaking down in tears, Jeff then turned to his oldest son Bobby, who was watching the interview from the audience.

He said: 'I want to apologise to Bob almost, because he doesn't often see me upset.

'But okay, but I know what a valuable lesson I'm teaching him. I'm literally in front of a thousand people, however many people are in here, and I don't care.

'I'm proud to be a man that can show emotion. I hope he feels that validation that if he ever needs to, he can too.'

Since the podcast was recorded in May, Bobby has relocated to New York, with Jeff celebrating the move with an 'emotional' farewell party on what would have been his mum Jade's 45th birthday.

In recent months, Jeff has adjusted to his new role as a grandfather after his son Freddy welcomed a daughter named Isla with his ex-girlfriend Holly Swinburn.

In November he also split from his wife Kate after seven years of marriage.

The Daily Mail revealed Freddy and Holly, who welcomed their daughter, Isla Jade, in March, had a furious incident at their former home last week where police became involved after a string of previous rows.

Relations have become so toxic between the former partners that  has even volunteered to help provide some stability for the baby while the warring pair work out their differences. .
