The former couple met on the set of hit series  in 2014 and welcomed two children Wren, eight, Lark, four, before splitting in 2023. 

Now Helen, 42, has opened up about 'juggling' motherhood with her stage career as she admitted she does make 'mistakes' at times.  

Speaking to BBC Radio 4, she said: 'I would like to also shout out to the father of my daughters, Jack. We split the children 50/50, he is an incredible and reliable father who also juggles as much as I!' 

Helen continued: 'It is a juggle and I make mistakes. I have to forgive myself for that because I am a good mother. 

'The way I tackle it is that I have to bring my children on this ride. They have to be in the dressing room after school. They have to have their bath in my dressing room, be put to bed in the dressing room and then I take them home. 

'They are growing up watching me work and understanding how important it is for women to be financially independent and know, no one is coming to save us but ourselves as I like to say'. 

It comes after Daily Mail revealed last year that Helen had embarked on a new romance with businessman Dan Innes.

The actress has been dating the divorced father-of-two - who is 11 years her senior - since January 2025 and it's believed they met on celebrity dating app Raya.

The pair spent Valentine's Day together at a restaurant in Barnes, South London, close to where Dan, 52, is based which Helen documented on her Instagram Stories.

The couple enjoyed a meal at The Waterman Arms as Dan shared a snap of Helen beaming with a bottle of red wine as he joked: 'Can I get this to go please? #yesyesyes'.

The romance comes a year after Helen was linked with her Call the Midwife co-star Olly Rix, who played her onscreen husband Matthew Aylward.

They reportedly grew close following splits from their respective longterm partners.

At the time, Helen had broken up with her partner of seven years, Jack, with whom she shares two daughters. Meanwhile, Olly had separated from his make-up artist girlfriend Natasha Fagri, whom he'd been dating since 2016.

However, the pair drifted apart and after joining Raya in a bid to find love, she's now dating the property marketing agency boss.

According to Dan's LinkedIn profile, he's worked in real estate for over 25 years and his specialist skill is that 'he sees the bigger property picture - which now activity embraces technology'.

He was brought up in North Wales and attended Newcastle University before moving down to settle in London.

Dan split up from the mother of his two children - who are 14 and 12 - Kate Wetten in 2016. They married in 2008.

Helen was previously married to actor Oliver Boot, but they divorced after three years.

Helen met her former partner on the set of BBC drama Hotel Babylon, and the couple married in December 2012.

Their separation occurred just weeks before Helen began her stint on Strictly in 2015 in which she was paired with pro dancer Aljaž Skorjanec and finished in sixth place.
