Dutton Ranch viewers were left shocked by Friday's season one finale following the death of a major character.

In a jaw-dropping conclusion, Rob-Will Jackson, played by Australian actor , was killed at the hands of his own brother, Joaquin Jackson Reyes, played by Juan Pablo Raba.

Although Rob-Will has been a drug-dealing villain on the series, the character shared a humanizing moment with his daughter Oreana, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, right before his death.

'This place eats what it loves and keeps the bones,' Rob-Will tells wild child Oreana in the emotional scene.

'Why are you still here?' she asks him, before he replies, 'Somebody got to stand in the doorway when the wolves show up.'

He continues, 'I know I haven't been much of a father, I keep thinking I'm going to have the time to fix that but truth is I'm not gonna fix a damn thing. It just buries what's broken. You are the only thing in this house that ain't crooked. The one thing I ever did right.'

Adding to the drama, Oreana took a pregnancy test and discovered that she was pregnant, while her beau Carter, played by Finn Little, was kidnapped by the cartel.

Viewers had a mixed reaction to the finale, with some calling it predictable while others were shocked by all the twists and turns.

'I knew someone wasn't making it out alive!' commented one, while another fan wrote, 'Anyone who thought Jia Courtney would be on a TV show as a permanent character is a fool.'

'I totally saw Carter being kidnapped when he was trying to run away. This was predictable. I knew there had to be a cliffhanger,' added a third.

'That Dutton Ranch finale was insaaaaaaane,' added a fourth, while another commented, 'Wow, season finale of Dutton Ranch.. so good, can't wait for season 2.'

Lind previously spoke to Daily Mail about the season one finale, teasing that viewers were in for some major shocks.

'Episode nine that's about to come out, that episode takes everything that's been said the entire season and flips it,' she said last week.

'I really don't think anybody's gonna see things coming. There is a very specific scene that I'm talking about... I can't say too much,' she continued.

Dutton Ranch has already been greenlit for a second season with a brand new showrunner

'Showrunners change all the time,' Hauser said. 'This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.'

Reilly added, 'We finished [season one] with Chad beautifully. We finished this season together.'

She continued, 'It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that.'

Fans also weighed in on the showrunner shakeup, with one commenting, 'I hope we see a bit more bite to Beth and a few less things that seem out of character for other established characters. I've enjoyed the first season, but there is some definite room for improvement.'

Another wrote, 'All I know is we need more Beth and Rip time, lots more!'

A third commented, 'Hopefully he is a good choice and can either maintain or bring up the quality.'
